Pacific Beach
Pacific Beach If there's one place you have to hit in San Diego, it's Pacific Beach. Miles of golden sand, a buzzing boardwalk lined with bars and restaurants, and some of the best surf in California right on your doorstep. Whether you're renting a board and catching waves or just soaking up the sun with a cold drink in hand, PB has that classic California energy that never gets old. The nightlife here is just as good, it's one of the best strips in the city when the sun goes down.
The Gaslamp Quarter Think of the Gaslamp Quarter as San Diego's version of Temple Bar — 16 blocks of rooftop bars, live music venues, restaurants and nightlife packed into the heart of downtown. It's the kind of place you can wander for hours, grab food from a world-class restaurant, and end up dancing the night away all within a few streets of each other. A night out here is a must at least once during your summer.

Balboa Park
Balboa Park If you want to actually see San Diego beyond the beach, Balboa Park is the place to go. It's a massive sprawling park in the middle of the city packed with museums, gardens, trails and free outdoor events throughout the summer. The San Diego Zoo sits right inside it — one of the best in the world — and on Friday evenings the park comes alive with food trucks and live entertainment. It's the kind of place you could spend a full day and still not see everything.
